Recommendations for installation device / location: Little SIS uses web technologies (apps built in HTML, CSS, JS) but runs them as a local, platform-agnostic apps. Generally, there are two ways to set up Little SIS:
- On a Windows Virtual Machine (VM) -- this has the advantage of easy remote access, making the app more accessible across the district. Based on our testing, Little SIS requires the VM to be set up with at least two cores.
- On a physical Windows machine -- advantage here being if you don’t have the capacity to set up VMs.
Additional Technical Requirements:
- 2 core processor
- 8 gigs of ram
NOTE: while technically this means we should be able to package Little SIS for Mac OS and Linux in the future, given most district’s preferences, our current focus is on support for a Windows installer. We have been testing on more recent versions of Windows (e.g. 2012 R2) however electron.js claims to support Windows 2008 R2 or higher.
Installer package: We will provide the .exe file for Little SIS as part of our onboarding correspondence.
Future updates: Update notifications will be communicated via a private Google Group membership, and within the Little SIS app itself. Updates will be generally be a click-through process and will need to be initiated manually from within the Little SIS application.
