Installation requirements

 

Recommendations for installation device / location:  Little SIS Sync uses web technologies (apps built in HTML, CSS, JS) but runs them as a local, platform-agnostic apps.  Generally, there are two ways to set up Little SIS Sync:

  • On a Windows Virtual Machine (VM) -- this has the advantage of easy remote access, making the app more accessible across the district.  Based on our testing, Little SIS Sync Agent requires the VM to be set up with at least two cores.
  • On a physical Windows machine -- advantage here being if you don’t have the capacity to set up VMs.

Additional Technical Requirements:

  • 2 core processor
  • 8 gigs of ram 

NOTE: While technically this means we should be able to package Little SIS Sync Agent for Mac OS and Linux in the future, given most district’s preferences, our current focus is on support for a Windows installer.  

Staff and students must be under the same G Suite admin console. Sub domains and secondary domains under the same G Suite instance are both fine, but separate G Suite domains are not currently supported.
 
Recommendations for installation user profile:  Because Little SIS Sync Agent runs jobs on a schedule from an active application session, it requires a Windows user account that must remain perpetually logged in to the machine with an active user session.  We recommend using a dedicated administrative role account for this purpose. In addition, a G Suite super admin account is needed to authenticate Little SIS.

Installer package:  We will provide the .exe file for Little SIS Sync once a Purchase Order is received. 

Future updates:  Update notifications will be communicated via a private Google Group membership, and within the Little SIS Sync Agent app.  Updates will be generally be a click-through process and will need to be initiated manually from within the Little SIS Sync Agent application.
