Review and Approve Class Links

If Little SIS Premium detects existing teacher-created classes on the domain, they appear on the Teacher Class Matches tab of Review & Action. These classes are similar to one that already exists in Classroom. First, select a teacher to work with, then you can review and approve an action for each class. Actions include:

  • Link to Classroom
  • Save class exception
  • Exclude class for this sync
  • Create new classes

Examining Students in Each Matching Category

Each class has a matching score at the right. The score calculates based on the degree of roster overlap and name similarity. There is also a colored bar that shows the overlap and variance in rosters. Hovering over the bar reveals details of the variance. This includes

  • Green: The number of matching students
  • Red: Classroom enrollments not in SIS
  • Yellow: SIS enrollments not in Classroom

To examine students in a matching category, do the following:

  1. Select a teacher name to work with from the list at the left.
  2. For a class in the list, click on a color in the bar.

A dialog opens where you can examine the names and email addresses of the students in the category.  Examining each matching category can help detect quality issues in your SIS data. In some cases where the accuracy of email addresses in the SIS is poor, these results can provide helpful information.

Designating an Action for a Linked Class

Actions you can take for a candidate match appear above and to the left of the identified class.

To select an action for a linked class, follow these steps:

  1. Select a teacher name to work with from the list at the left.
  2. Locate the class to link in the list.
  3. Select an action:
    • Link to Classroom: This option is auto-selected when there's a high degree of roster/name similarity. Approving and committing this action tags the existing teacher Classroom class with a Little SIS Sync alias. Roster updates will happen on that class in all syncs in the future.
    • Save class exception: This action excludes the SIS class from this sync and all future syncs. Let's say a teacher uses Google Classroom with non-standard rostering with combined or differentiated sections. Little SIS does not accommodate these arrangements. It may be best to exclude these classes from sync.
    • Exclude class for this sync: This is a good option when there may not be enough information to decide about linking. It preserves the option to link the class during a later Little SIS sync.
    • Create new class: Use this option when it is clear that the SIS class does not match any of the teacher's existing Classroom classes, it will provision one for them.
  4. Click Approve and Stage Actions. Your choices move to the staged actions list and move you along to the next teacher in the list on the left.
