In today's evolving digital landscape, ensuring the safety and compliance of students using online tools is paramount. For educational institutions utilizing Google Workspace for Education (GWfE), there are specific requirements to manage access to Additional Google Services for users under 18. School administrators are already required to acknowledge the GWfE terms, which mandate obtaining parental consent before allowing any user under 18 to access these services. However, not all Additional Google Services are available to users under 18, and some services may offer a restricted experience once access is granted.
What You Will Learn
This article guides you through the upcoming changes regarding the re-confirmation of access to Additional Google Services for users under 18. It details the steps administrators need to take, the timeline for compliance, and what to expect after the deadline.

March 2025 |
This phased rollout provides ample time for educational institutions to review and manage access to Additional Google Services, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safeguarding students' online experiences.
Re-confirming Access to Additional Google Services
Beginning September 16, 2024, a new requirement will be introduced globally for Google Workspace for Education admins. Administrators must re-confirm access to any Additional Google Services currently enabled for organizational units or groups containing users under 18. This re-confirmation process will occur in the Admin Console, where admins can confirm access at the service level for individual, organizational units, or groups or apply the confirmation across all services and users simultaneously.
This process is designed to be flexible. Depending on their needs, administrators can confirm access for one service at a time or all at once.
It's important to note that administrators are not required to complete this task in one session; they will have until March 2025 to finalize the re-confirmation process.
- From the Admin Console: Navigate to Home. A banner at the top alerts admins to the confirmation of consent requirement. Click Review Consent at the right in the banner.
What Happens After the Deadline
Once the March 2025 deadline has passed, any Additional Google Services that have not been re-confirmed for users under 18 will be automatically blocked. Administrators will have visibility within the Admin Console to see which services have been restricted due to the lack of re-confirmation. This process will allow schools to ensure that only appropriately confirmed services remain accessible, thereby maintaining compliance with parental consent requirements and protecting underage users.
