Google Chrome Sign Builder allows Google admins to create and manage digital signage through Chrome devices, automating content display such as slideshows. Schools often use this tool to show announcements or other content without user interaction.
This article will walk you through the process of publishing a Google Slides presentation and configuring it for kiosk mode on Chrome devices, allowing the slideshow to play automatically.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Publish Your Slideshow to the Web
Once your Google Slides presentation is ready, follow these steps to publish it:
- In Google Slides, go to File > Publish to the web.
- Select the Link tab, and choose an appropriate auto-advance time for your slides (e.g., 5 seconds, 10 seconds).
- Check the boxes to enable Start the slideshow as soon as the player loads and Restart the slideshow after the last slide.
- Expand the Published content & settings section.
- Check the Restrict access to the following checkbox, then be sure your domain is selected (since no one will be logged in on the device).
- Click Start publishing and confirm your action.
-
Copy the link generated after publishing.
Add the Slideshow to Kiosk Mode in the Admin Console
Once you have the published link, go to your Google Admin console to configure kiosk mode.
- In the Admin console, go to Devices > Chrome > Apps and extensions > Kiosks.
- At the left, select the Organizational Unit (OU) the display device belongs to.
- At the bottom right, click on the yellow + to add a kiosk app.
- Choose the Add by URL option and paste the link you copied earlier.
- Paste the URL in the field provided.
- Click Save, then Agree.
Configure the Auto-Launch App Policy
To ensure the slideshow runs automatically:
- In the Kiosk settings, locate the Auto-launch app bar and click None.
- Select the slideshow URL you just added. This opens the Kiosk Settings.
Additional Kiosk Settings
For optimal performance, apply these settings:
Setting Name | Setting |
Allow App to Manage Power setting to prevent the device from sleeping | OFF |
Allow On-screen Keyboard | ON |
Enable Plug-ins | ON |
Set Keyboard Top Row as FN Keys | OFF |
Allow a Unique Fullscreen Window on Each Screen This let's the presentation run in Full screen mode. |
ON |
Enable Device Attributes API | ON |
- Double-check that the device is assigned to the correct OU for applying these settings.
Republish the Slideshow After Changes
Important: If you make any changes to the slideshow—such as adding slides, adjusting the auto-advance time, or updating sharing permissions—you’ll need to republish the slideshow using the steps in Publish Your Slideshow to the Web above. Failing to do so may cause the slideshow to stop playing in kiosk mode.
Test the Published Slideshow
Before finalizing, test the link in an incognito window to ensure you can view the slideshow without logging in. This will confirm that the sharing permissions are set correctly.
