The ability to join the class as a co-teacher or student lets administrators gain better insights into the Classroom environment and better support the teachers and students. This article walks you through adding yourself as a co-teacher and a student. To add other users as a primary or co-teacher, see Editing primary and co-teachers.

Single Class: Joining a Class as a Co-teacher

To join a single class as a co-teacher, start in the Explorer:

  1. In the left menu, click Explorer.
  2. Search and select classes you want to join.

    Pro Tip: If you know the course to join, use the Course Name filter to find that course. 

  3. Right-click over the class.
  4. Click Teacher actions.
  5. Click Join as a co-teacher.

  6. Confirm classes you want to add yourself to by selecting the class again.
  7. Click Continue.
  8. You can choose to notify the primary teacher that you have joined their class and customize the message.
  9. Click Continue.
  10. Review the changes that will be made.
  11. Click Proceed.

Bulk Classes: Joining Classes as a Co-teacher

  1. In the left menu, click Explorer. Google Classroom Explorer opens.
  2. Search for and select the classes you want to join.
  3. Click Teachers at the top left of the page.
  4. Click Join # selected classes as a co-teacher

  5. Confirm classes you want to add yourself to by selecting the class again.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. By default co-teachers Limit time of access is set to Do not remove. Select a different time limit if necessary. Options include, For 1 hour, For one day, Until, and Do not remove which lets you choose a date and time access is to end.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. You can choose to notify the primary teacher that you have joined their class and customize the message.
  10. Click Continue.
  11. Review the changes that will be made.
  12. Click Proceed.

Single Class: Joining a Class as a Student

To join a single class as a student, start in the Explorer:

  1. In the left menu, click Explorer.
  2. Search and select classes you want to join.

    Pro Tip: If you know the course to join, use the Course Name filter to find that course. 

  3. Right-click over the class.
  4. Click Teacher actions.
  5. Click Join as a student.

  8. You can choose to notify the primary teacher that you have joined their class and customize the message.

Bulk Classes: Joining Classes as a Student

  1. In the left menu, click Explorer. Google Classroom Explorer opens.
  2. Search for and select the classes you want to join.
  3. Click Students at the top left of the page.
  4. Click Join # selected classes as a student-teacher. The Join classes stepper opens.

  6. Click Continue.
  7. You can choose to notify the primary teacher that you have joined their class and customize the message.
  8. Click Continue.
