Emails that come from some of Google's notifications, such as getting emails that someone has shared a document with you. Emails from some of Google's other systems, such as when you select the email guests, checkbox, in a Google calendar event.

Vault does not retain the sent email to the invitee guests. Enabling this setting for a particular OU or even at the root, we are telling Google that we actually want to keep all of the email we are sending and receiving, even from some of those notification and system-generated emails.

So if you ever want to do a Vault search, and find out when someone got the email notification for a document share or from a calendar event.
