Okay, so I have a user account here and I want to set this user up with the ability to visit a class temporarily without being a primary teacher or a co-teacher.

So there are two things as an admin I need to check. The first thing is to make sure that they have the correct admin privileges for that possibility.
0:25
Now I've made a custom roll called Manage Classes Admin and in a separate video we'll take a look to do that but there's a particular admin privilege that this user needs to be assigned in order to visit a class.
0:36
The second piece is they have to have a license assigned for education plus Google Workspace for Education plus. This is not teaching and learning upgrade, not standard, it must be a plus license and it does have to be applied to the end user for them to be permissioned correctly.

But once those two things are set, then we can take a look at the user experience for this admin or teacher.
0:59
Right, so the user experience is when you get to this classroom page, you will now have the visit a class box as long as you are permissioned and licensed as a teacher to visit.
1:10
Then you could look up your teachers or students that you want to follow along with. So I'm going to look up my fellow teacher here because I've been asked to go and observe some class work that's going on in there and then I'll just pick another class that I have access to.
1:29
And I'll be required to put in here the reason why I'm visiting, but there is another option so that you can be real specific.
1:36
I will go ahead and put in that I'm viewing work. You can also add a message to the primary teacher and that will be part of the email.
1:48
So the primary teacher will get an email stating that you are visiting their class and any work that you was a visiting teacher do will also generate an email to that teacher that primary teacher.
2:00
Co-teachers don't get those at least as far as we see right now so just the primary teacher does. The other place where this is logged is in the admin console so any actions that a visiting teacher or visitor take in a classroom are logged including the joining of the class and leaving of the class
2:18
and then any actions they take. While you're in here as a visiting teacher you can take any actions that other co-teachers would take.
2:27
So of course you can't delete the class but you could add classwork, you could add people, you could grade items anything that a co-teacher can do.
2:37
One thing that's important to note is that you do not show up on the teacher's list or even as a temporary teacher while you're in here.
2:45
So your co-teachers in a classroom would not necessarily have any knowledge that you're here because they're not receiving emails and they're also not seeing any activity in there.
2:55
Of course if you do actually do something like add an assignment or an announcement then as a visiting teacher your name will be attached to that and that will alert folks that you actually took some action in the classroom as well.
3:12
Okay all that said that's kind of what it looks like from the visitors standpoint and next we'll do a video to show you what you need to do to set up correct admin privileges in detail.
