Anonymous Questions and Polls in Meet

There are a few default settings in Meet that your licensed Teaching and Learning Upgrade or Plus instructors will need education on. These settings cannot be changed in the Admin console, so the instructors need to address them with each Meet themselves. The settings relate to Allowing anonymous questions in Q&A and anonymous polls.

The issue is that the default settings for these features do not align with our recommendation for education. Let's review these settings so you can bring this to your instructors' attention.

Allow questions in Q&A

Issue: In Host controls, Allow Questions in Q&A is ON by default.

When toggled ON, the Allow anonymous questions (Q&A) setting is also automatically set to ON. This means that when questions are allowed they are anonymous by default.

Recommendation: To prevent questions that are anonymous, toggle Allow anonymous questions (Q&A) to OFF.

Host Control icon > Allow Questions in Q&A > Allow anonymous questions (Q&A)

See Ask participants questions in Google Meet for more information.

Polls

Issue: When starting a poll, Responses appear without names is set to OFF.

When toggled OFF, the names and answers will be recorded. This means that when polls are allowed, names and answers are recorded by default.

Recommendation: To conduct polls where names for answers are anonymous, toggle Responses appear without names to ON.

Activities > Polls > Start a Poll > Responses appear without names

See Ask participants questions in Google Meet for more information.
