The Evolution of Data Refresh Capabilities

To enhance your ability to manage and monitor your devices, we introduced a convenient way to manually refresh your cache. This feature puts you in control, allowing you to trigger a comprehensive scan of your devices or to refresh specific devices whenever you need to ensure your data perfectly aligns with real-time changes.

When to Use Sync Device

While Gopher for Chrome Premium performs a comprehensive cache refresh on a regular schedule, the Sync Device tool is ideal for:

  • Immediate Verification: Confirming a device has checked in or a student has logged in recently.
  • Post-Action Validation: Ensuring that changes made to OUs or annotations are showing correctly in the Gopher for Chrome Premium UI.
  • Troubleshooting: Determining if a device is truly unresponsive or if the Gopher for Chrome Premium table is simply showing older cached data.

Syncing vs. Admin Actions

It is important to distinguish between Data Syncing and Device Management:

  • Sync Device
    • Updates the information displayed in Gopher for Chrome Premium.
    • Very fast (Surgical/Partial refresh).
  • Move to OU / Deprovision
    • Changes the device's actual settings in Google.
    • Depends on Google API processing.

Note: If a device's Last Sync time does not update after a Sync Device command, the device may not be communicating with Google's servers, or there may be a delay in Google's reporting API.

How to Initiate a Manual Cache Refresh

The process for updating your device data is integrated into your workflow with two primary options:

Refresh All Devices

Use this when you need a total system update to align all data with real-time changes.

  1. Locate the Refresh Button: Navigate to the Refresh Cache drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the page.
  2. Select Refresh All: Click the drop-down arrow and select Refresh All.
  3. Confirm: A full, comprehensive scan of all connected devices will begin immediately.

Refresh Selected Devices

Use this to update only the specific assets you are currently working on.

  1. Select Your Devices: Check the boxes next to the specific devices you wish to update in the device list.
  2. Access the Menu: Click the Refresh Cache drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. Select Refresh Selected: This option will trigger a scan only for the items you highlighted.
  4. Confirm the Action: A pop-up will appear confirming the number of devices to be refreshed. Click Continue to proceed.

Observe the Changes

Once the scan is complete, the updated information will be reflected across various sections of the app, including:

  • Dashboard: Your overview will display the latest metrics and statuses.
  • Device Search: Any recent changes to device properties or statuses will be visible.
  • Reports: Generated reports will incorporate the most current data, ensuring accuracy.

Pro Tip: To confirm that the data has successfully updated, check the Cache last updated timestamp located next to the refresh button. This provides immediate assurance of exactly when your information was last verified.

With refresh cache capability, you can maintain the highest level of data accuracy, ensuring your monitoring and reporting are always based on the most recent device information available.
