Managing Device Factory Resets

The Factory Reset feature allows administrators to remotely trigger a powerwash on managed Chrome devices. This process removes all user accounts and clears all local data, returning the device to its original out-of-the-box state while maintaining its enrollment in your domain.

How to Initiate a Factory Reset

  1. Search & select:
    • Navigate to Device Search and use filters to find the devices you wish to factory reset.
    • Select the checkboxes for all applicable devices.

Pro Tip: Working with a large list? Click Show Selected Only in the grid footer to verify your choices across multiple pages before running a bulk action. Click Show All to return to the full list.

  2. Initialize the action: Click the Actions button in the top-right corner, then select Factory Reset.
  3. Review the Factory Reset Confirmation warning. This action is irreversible and erases all data on the device(s).
  4. Click Factory Reset.
  5. Once finished, a Completed successfully message will appear at the bottom of the page.

Critical Reminders

Warning: A factory reset erases All data on the device’s hard drive. This includes files in the Downloads folder and any local certificates. We recommend that users back up important files to Google Drive before this action.

Tracking Factory Resets

Detailed logs of who initiated the reset and when it completed are also available in the Audit Log.
