Edit Device Information, Device Summary

The Device Summary page provides a centralized, deep-dive view of a specific machine's hardware and configuration. While viewing these comprehensive details, you can also perform manual updates to key administrative fields. This method is ideal when you are already inspecting a single device's history or health and need to make a quick correction to its assigned metadata.

When to Use Device Summary Editing

  • Single-Focus Updates: When you only need to modify one specific device and prefer a form-based interface over a spreadsheet-style grid.
  • During Device Inspection: If you are reviewing a device's Hardware Details and notice that the Annotated assed ID, Annotated user, Annotated location, Notes, or OU Path is outdated.
  • Validating Changes: The summary edit includes a Review Changes step, providing an extra layer of verification before the data is committed.

If you need to update multiple devices at once with unique data, use In-Cell Editing. To apply the same information to a large group of devices, use our Bulk Update Tool.

Which Fields Are Editable?

Within the Device Information tab, you can modify the following fields:

  • Annotated Asset ID: The asset identifier as noted by an administrator or specified during enrollment. Maximum length is 200 characters. Can be empty.
  • Annotated User: The user of the device, as noted by the administrator. Maximum length is 100 characters. It can be empty.
  • Annotated Location: The address or location of the device as noted by the administrator. Maximum length is 200 characters. It can be empty.
  • OU path: This field lets you move the device by changing the OU.
  • Notes: This field lets you record your actions—for example, the OU previous OU and the reason for moving a device. Maximum length is 500 characters. Empty values are allowed.
    • Because you can update multiple devices at once, the available space in the Notes field depends on which Update Method you choose:
      • Replace: You have the full 500 characters available to write a new note.
      • Append / Prepend: You can enter up to 500 characters minus the length of the longest existing note among your selected devices.

Note: System-level data, such as OS version, MAC address, or serial number, is reported directly by the hardware and cannot be manually edited.

How to Modify and Save

  1. Access the Device Summary: From the Device Search grid, click the View (eye icon) next to the device you wish to update.
  2. Initialize Edit Mode: On the Device Information tab, locate the Editable Fields section and click the Edit button.
  3. Enter New Data: A pop-up Edit device panel will appear. Type your changes into the provided text fields for Annotated Asset ID, Annotated User, Annotated Location, Notes, or OU path.
  4. Navigate to Review: Click Next to proceed to the confirmation screen.
  5. Review Changes: The system will display the Current Value alongside the New Value. This allows you to catch any typos before saving.
  6. Confirm and Proceed: If the information is correct, click Confirm and Proceed. To make further adjustments, click Previous.

Note: If you decide not to make changes, clicking Cancel at any point will close the window and leave the original device data intact.
