Single Device Usage Report

The Single Device Report provides a granular, 360-degree view of a specific ChromeOS device. The Single Device Report offers IT administrators a detailed view of a specific device's usage and activity. Administrators use this report to verify assigned device usage and track user sessions. The report shows all recent activity on a specific device, which is valuable when you need to trace device damage or malicious network behavior back to a particular hardware instance for forensic purposes.

How to Generate the Report

  1. Navigate to Dashboard
    OR
Reports in Gopher for Chrome Premium.
  2. Click See Report on the Single device report card.
  3. The Identify device by field defaults to the Serial Number. Select a different search item (Device ID or Annotated User) from the drop-down menu if needed.

Note: If you type in a number or ID that doesn't match a device in your fleet, don't worry. You'll receive a No device found matching the search criteria message in the pop-up, prompting you to check your spelling or try a different ID.

  4. Enter the specific device identifier: Serial Number, Device ID, or Annotated User.
  5. Click Search.
  6. Wait for the Loading device sessions indicator to complete.

Understanding the Report Fields

Data is organized into four distinct tabs for detailed forensic analysis:

  • Device Information: Core hardware specs and identity data. Click Edit to edit device information on this tab.
  • Device Usage: Timeline of device activity and session durations.
  • Gopher Buddy Sessions: Logs of specific user interactions via the Gopher Buddy extension.
  • Chrome Audit Events: Administrative logs of system-level events and policy syncs.

Scope and Data Parameters

  • Data Source: This report is powered by the Asset Cache. If a device has been offline for an extended period, telemetry data reflects the state recorded during its most recent sync.
  • Search Scope: By default, the search may be set to Status: Active. Adjust your filter pills if you are searching for devices with different statuses.
  • Forensic Availability: The depth of Chrome Audit Events and Gopher Buddy Sessions is specific to the Single Device Report and depends on your organization's data retention policies and extension deployment. Gopher Buddy provides up to 180 days of high-resolution session data (who used which device and for how long) for investigating lost/damaged devices.
